There were no role models for this budding gay boy, and the way people spoke of homosexuality made me feel like something akin to a murderer. And so I spent many years hidden behind the mask of my respectable, hetero lifestyle and I spent seven years happily married to a woman. The pressure caused by my inner conflict eventually rose to a boiling point, and needing refuge from the cold, cruel world, I volunteered myself into a mental hospital for thirty days. Thanks to inner strength and perseverance, I have managed to turn my life beautifully around. Totally unmasked, and finally being true to myself, I became a successful film publicist in Hollywood working with such notables as Lucille Ball, Clint Eastwood, Barbra Streisand, John Denver, Jack Lemmon and a host of others. In addition, I became friends with singer-actress Doris Day, a star I have totally obsessed over for a lifetime. For anyone who feels that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Howard Green's autobiographical, "Being Green A Colorful Journey" is a must-read on so many levels. It's impossible to put down once you begin reading Howard's journey and indeed I sat and read, complete transfixed, for several hours of time very well spent. Several days later I returned and read it a second time, savoring every morsel of information and all of the sometimes delightful and sometimes gut-wrenching adventures he experienced during his life, well-led.Writing your own story can be very difficult, something I know from my own experiences. However, Howard has perfectly balanced the ups and downs, the triumphs and tragedies, the loves found and sometimes lost, with a certain wry humor and a fearlessness in not allowing himself to come across as a victim or having an inability to point the finger at himself if he somehow fell short. His candor and honesty has the reader rooting for Howard, admiring his chutzpah and very grateful for his having shared these experiences as well as allowing us a glimpse into what life was like in a time not so long ago but when attitudes and acceptance was vastly different for anyone who wanted to live life on their own terms.
Although Howard had some opportunities that those of us who love the glamour and magic that was Hollywood could only dream about, he relates his stories and encounters with all of those household names with such disarming delight that the reader is never jealous or longing to say, "Why him and not me!!".
Howard writes in such a natural and warm style that you almost feel as though you are sitting in a cozy living room with a fire roaring in the fireplace as Howard relates his story. I laughed, I cried, I smiled and I admired this man who still has a lot of living to do but has shared his path to the man he is now with such sincerity that my only regret about the book would be that I didn't want it to end. I hope we'll hear more from Howard Green, the author, in the future. I've a feeling he has a lot more to say and it'll be worth hearing.

I enjoyed this book, the writing is great. It took great guts and determination for Mr. Green to put pen to paper and share his life with others. An inspiring life and story.
Love the Book made me cry
an honest true story Of how a boy has to deal with being accepted and being true to his feeling and becoming a man without the approval of what others and learning to approve of himself
A story proving that our past does not dictate our future destiny, we ourselves have the power to move forward in life as we see fit.

Howard's story is an inspiration to all. He overcame many obstacles in life and found his way in the world, meeting many interesting people along the way, including many celebrities. Howard has been a good friend to so many people. He is generous and kind. We can all learn something from his experiences. I highly recommend his book. Thanks, Howard, for sharing your story!
Interesting reading that moves along nicely. I had a hard time putting it down.Howard has had an interesting life with many ups and downs coming from a troubled family.He has met many well known people and movie stars in his line of work. During his many ups and downs he's like Doris Day and keeps bouncing back.
I thoroughly enjoyed Green's book. He went from a painful, troubled childhood, to realizing his dreams as an adult in the entertainment industry. Through it all, Green developed a positive outlook on life. It was especially fun to read about his experiences with Doris Day and the many other famous people he got to know. I had a hard time putting the book down.
This is a breezy, chatty, delightful read. Howard has lived a colorful life and his writing style is as unpretentious and genuine as he is. He encountered numerous celebrities throughout his life and he shares those experiences with discretion and good taste. I think the single most impressive take away is how resilient he is. Although he suffered personal and career setbacks, he always bounced back and never became a victim. I am grateful he chose to share his story with the world.
